OK Im really confused, i want to get a tattoo but idk if they are a sin or not?

Im muslim, im from bosnia and i keep looking everywhere to find out if tattoos are a sin because i want to get one but idk if they are. everywhere i look people either say they are or arent. please someone tell me are they a sin because i know a bosnian muslim who has a tattoo and idk if its a sin or not so please tell me if it is or not?
